BOLLYWOOD – The ‘Masala’ movie experience

BOLLYWOOD. It's a nickname for the most popular cinema on the planet: the Hindi-language film industry based in Bombay (AKA Mumbai), India. Each year Bollywood sells a million more tickets worldwide than Hollywood. If you are in the mood for high drama -- whether it be an epic romance, a swashbuckling adventure, a revenge saga, a comedic extravaganza, or a reaffirmation of familial love -- why, then there's no other cinema for you.

A swordfight will segue into a song, a battle will be interspersed with slapstick humour, and a movie that began as a whimsical romance could end up as a full overblown tragedy. All these elements, the rich mixture (masala) of action, romance, comedy & drama are very much present in the cinema of Bollywood, however it is not the alienating experience you might expect but rather an invigorating cinematic celebration where anything and everything is possible!
