Have not read the books so found the movie took a while to get into it but overall was good.

Not as good as the book (but I'm pretty sure that's impossible). Deviations from the book were kinda annoying but they did well considering (although some bits would have made it easier to understand and more dramatic). The fact that Woody Harolson is Haymitch is so hilarious - a big difference from his role in Cheers. I wasn't sure if Josh Hutcherson would pull it off but he did. Katniss was amazing.

A perfectly realised translation of book to film that, as Donald Sutherland said: has the potential to be one of the most influential films of our times. The attention to detail is astounding and the interpretation of the characters by the key cast is flawless. Jennifer Lawrence's ability to portray entire pages of the book in a few looks or movements on the screen makes the perfect Katniss, and is evidence of her skills as a consumate actor at such a young age. Liam Hemsworth shows once again that he is the shining star of his family and the only one of his brothers that is more than just a walking mannequin. Stanley Tucci prowess in owning a role is impeccably matched to Jennifer Lawrence's Katniss; who knew Lenny Kravitz was so skilled and empathic as an actor and Donald Sutherland is an accurately chilling President Snow. Even with the violence minimised to get the lower rating, the horror of this tale of a society gone made where children are made to slaughter each other for

It's not hard to see why this story was adapted to a movie: the idea is compelling. There is plenty of action and violence, but the violence never goes over the top. The heroine, Katniss, is inspiring, and the actress (Jennifer Lawrence) plays her wonderfully. The politcal message, while it is watered down a tad, is nonetheless still present and gives this movie and edge I think a lot of Hollywood blockbusters lack. Of course, it's not for everyone: it's perhaps too Hollywood or too young for serious movie critics (the book is aimed at teens), and perhaps too serious, and too violent for a younger audience. The movie does, as well, lack a little background detail. But for the most part, this movie is emotionally compelling and action packed, and should find a strong fan base. On a more personal note, I cannot wait for the next installment - I've read the book, and if the movie can do it justice, it will be incredible.
