Suzanne, a middle-aged widow, rescues Osmane, a young undocumented Sudanese refugee, from a racist attack, an unexpected connection begins to flourish. As their relationship deepens into love, they are forced to confront prejudice, intolerance and the growing hostility of a fractured society. Palestinian International film star Hiam Abbas's defiant and moving portrayal, coupled with director Danielle Arbid's compassionate, honest and at times humorous direction, delivers a film you'll be thinking about long after you leave the cinema. Originally scheduled for filming in Lebanon, the ongoing bombing of South Lebanon forced a desperate search for last minute overseas locations, recreating Beirut through a meticulously clever set design, and giving the film a unique and almost surreal ambiance.
